Crews were already out searching for a missing 83-year-old woman on Saturday when her pet cat Piran was heard meowing by one of the neighbors searching for the woman in Bodmin, Cornwall, United Kingdom.

The woman had fallen down a ravine that was described as having “incredibly difficult access and uneven terrain.”

Sky News reported that the woman had even fallen through some barbed wire.

The woman had come to a stop in a stream.

One of the witnesses told BBC News that Piran was “quite persistent.”

The owner of the land where Piran was told Sky News, “This was unusual.”

“The cat is very attached to her, and he was going back and forth in the gateway and meowing, so I decided to go and search the maize field,” Tamar Longmuir told Sky News.

Longmuir then went to the field and started calling the woman’s name.

At first Longmuir’s cows responded but then she said that she heard the woman’s call for help.

“Without the cat waiting at the gate to that field, it could have been hours later that I or anyone else would have checked there,” Longmuir told Sky News.

Bodmin Police said, “Piran the cat saved the day.”

Police said the woman was hoisted back up to the top on a stretcher and taken to an area hospital.
