ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a pickup truck driver were seriously injured in a crash involving a marked patrol vehicle in a construction zone on State Road 429 in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at 9:12 p.m. Tuesday in the southbound lanes of State Road 429 near mile marker 6 in Bay Lake, FHP said.
According to preliminary information, a 2026 Toyota Tundra driven by a 53-year-old man from Davenport was traveling southbound when the driver failed to move over for a marked FHP patrol car ahead in an active construction zone where a lane closure was in place.
The front of the Toyota Tundra struck the rear of the patrol vehicle, according to FHP.
The pickup truck driver was transported to Celebration Hospital with serious injuries.
The FHP trooper was airlifted to HCA Osceola Regional Medical Hospital with serious injuries. The trooper remains in stable condition, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
Following the crash, FHP reminded motorists of Florida’s Move Over law, which requires drivers to move over one lane for emergency, service, utility and disabled vehicles when it is safe to do so.
Violations can result in fines, fees and points on a driver’s record.
FHP has not released additional details as the investigation continues.
