Arrest affidavit reveals details in Michelle Parker case

Cellphone data linked both phones to a vehicle near Lake Conway

ORLANDO, Fla. — New details in an arrest affidavit indicate why Orlando Police arrested Michelle Parker’s ex-fiancé nearly 15 years after her disappearance.

According to the arrest affidavit, Parker dropped off the couple’s twins at Smith’s home on November 17, 2011. She hasn’t been seen since. Investigators said there were contradictions in Smith’s account of when exactly Parker left his residence. Video evidence showed her car remained at his home more than an hour after he told investigators she had left.

Investigators also said cell records showed both Parker’s and Smith’s cell phones were in a vehicle near Lake Conway. Smith’s phone remained online while Parker’s did not. Her phone was later recovered from that lake.

Officials also cited pictures of scratches and abrasions on Smith, which they believe came from a violent encounter with Parker on the day she went missing. The couple exchanged a series of text messages, which include Parker threatening to keep Smith from their children and Smith offering to pay Parker for sex. She declined.

Investigators believe Smith snapped, choked Parker to death, and disposed of her body. A reexamination of the case and new advances in crime-fighting technology led police to arrest Smith on a second-degree murder charge.

The affidavit mentioned two women who claimed Smith abused them when they dated.

Parker and Smith appeared on the syndicated small-claims courtroom show “The People’s Court,” where they sued each other over a $5,000 engagement ring. The episode aired on the same day Parker’s disappeared.
