OCALA, Fla. — Three young men have been arrested after a haircut stunt in the middle of an active Ocala roadway left one of them seriously injured, according to police.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 27 on State Road 200. Ocala police announced the arrests Wednesday.

Investigators identified the participants as Christopher Coleman, 20; Andrew Costa-De Souza, 19; and Ruben Rodriguez, 18.

Pickup struck teen seated in roadway

Police said the group took a chair from a nearby restaurant and placed it in the center of the road.

Rodriguez sat in the chair while Costa-De Souza cut his hair and Coleman recorded video, according to investigators. Police described the activity as an online challenge.

During the stunt, a nearby traffic crash caused a Chevrolet 3500 pickup to veer toward the group, police said.

Coleman and Costa-De Souza moved out of the way. Rodriguez, who was seated with his back to the approaching truck, was struck and suffered serious injuries.

All three face charges

Police said all three were arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and violating a city ordinance prohibiting dangerous use of public rights of way.

Costa-De Souza was arrested at Orlando International Airport after returning from outside the country and was transported to the Marion County Jail, according to the department.

The release did not provide an update on Rodriguez’s condition or details about the nearby crash.

Police warned that roadway stunts endanger both participants and motorists.
