Coronavirus: Barbershop owner calls for Washington governor’s arrest

SNOHOMISH, Wash. — The legal battle continues for a barbershop owner who defied Gov. Jay Inslee’s stay-at-home order.

This week, Bob Martin, owner of Stag Barber & Styling, received a cease-and-desist letter from the office of the Washington State Attorney General, who ordered the business’s immediate closure.According to the letter, unless Martin follows the direction of Gov. Inslee, the Department of Licensing, and the Snohomish Health District, “we will have no choice but to file a lawsuit against you and seek monetary penalties. This is your final warning.”

On Thursday, KIRO-TV found that Martin’s business was still in operation. Additionally, Martin called for Gov. Inslee’s arrest.

“The governor is acting in sedition and treason against me and the American people, therefore I call on the arrest of the governor for violating the sacred trust and the security of the American people,” Martin stated.

Martin refused to elaborate on how he would proceed in having the governor arrested.

Outside Martin’s store, customers told KIRO-TV they’ll keep coming back.

“Good for this guy,” noted customer Travis Frateau. “We live in America and it’s a free country and you should be able to take risk at your own risk.”

“All services are essential, not because of the service they provide, but because it's essential for everyone to provide for the family,” said customer Suzy Selin.

Martin’s legal battle could soon involve other businesses as well.

According to associates of Martin, plans are currently in place to reach out to other businesses that have defined Gov. Inslee’s order, including an Arlington gym.

They said their goal was to form a coalition of shops to speak out against the stay-at-home order.
