According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the man was shot by his ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend in north Harris County, KPRC reported. Deputies said two children, ages 1 and 9, are with the alleged gunman and a woman, the television station reported.

Update 3:18 p.m. ET Dec. 7: Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the man and woman are in custody, and that both children are safe, KPRC reported.

An Amber Alert was issued but has since been canceled, the television station reported.

The 9-year-old boy, Dominic “DJ” Wilson, and an 11-month-old girl named Kalis were recovered by authorities, KHOU reported. The sheriff’s office said the couple was arrested in Nacogdoches, the television station reported.

According to officials, DJ Wilson is the woman’s son, but the baby is not her child, KTRK reported.

Original report: Authorities said an Amber Alert could be issued for the children, KHOU reported.

Around 12:30 a.m. CT, deputies said a man got into a fight with his girlfriend’s former boyfriend at the Lakeview Apartments in the Cypress Station area of Harris County, located north of Houston, the television station reported.

According to authorities, the alleged gunman visited the complex twice in the past 24 hours. A second disagreement, which occurred around 1 a.m., resulted in the fatal shooting.

Four children -- ages 11, 8, 6 and 1 -- were inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, KTRK reported. Deputies said the alleged gunman and his girlfriend left the apartment with the 1-year-old and 8-year-old in a 2019 black Cadillac DTS with temporary tags, the television station reported.

The other two children were left at the apartment with a second woman, who has been cooperating with investigators, KTRK reported.

It is unclear what connection the children have to the couple or the people in the apartment.

Authorities would not speculate as to whether the children taken from the apartment were in danger.

“I can just say this, that they were taken by a male who just committed a felony by shooting an individual, so I wouldn’t take their safety for granted that they are OK,” Sgt. Greg Pinkins, with the HCSO Homicide unit, told KTRK.
