Scott Stewart MacQuarrie, 51, of Marathon, was arrested Monday on one count of possession of a weapon, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

MacQuarrie is registered with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s sex offender registry. Since he was convicted in October 2002 on a felony charge of having sex with a minor teenage girl, MacQuarrie is not allowed to own guns or ammunition, the Miami Herald reported.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, deputies received a tip that MacQuarrie had weapons and obtained a search warrant.

Detectives searching MacQuarrie’s residence in Marathon discovered a Taurus 9mm handgun and ammunition and approximately 1,500 rounds of 5.56-caliber rifle ammunition, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities also found several hundred rounds of .308-caliber rifle ammunition, and roughly 1,000 rounds of shotgun shells.

The ammunition was hidden in a secret compartment in a bathroom ceiling and in a shop area of the property, sheriff’s office spokesperson Adam Linhardt told the Herald.

Deputies also arrested Shawnna Kaye Conerly, 30, of Naples, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office online booking records. According to the sheriff’s office, Conerly allegedly was in possession of Xanax and alprazolam pills but did not have prescriptions for either, the Herald reported.

MacQuarrie and Conerly remain in the Monroe County Jail. Both will be arraigned on May 2, online records show.
