In court documents, sheriff’s deputies said they were on patrol in West Palm Beach when they saw Walter Kobersky behind the wheel of a car smoking crack cocaine.

The deputy writing the report said that after pulling their vehicle up alongside Kobersky’s, they got out and approached the suspect, giving verbal commands of “POLICE, SHERIFF’S OFFICE. DO NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE.”

Upon reaching the driver’s side door, however, the deputy said that “Kobersky put the vehicle in drive, turned his steering wheel to the left and rapidly accelerated directly in my line of travel. Kobersky nearly pinned and crushed me in between his vehicle and the unmarked patrol vehicle. I could not move from the position I was in as I was trapped between his vehicle and ours, where I was in fear for my life as I thought if I got crushed between the vehicles, I would get seriously injured and or die.”

Deputies said that Kobersky then purposely drove over the pinned deputy’s right foot with his tire before speeding away from the scene at approximately 80 mph, WPEC reported.

The deputies were able to get the vehicle’s license plate before it drove away. Waiting at the address where the vehicle was registered, deputies said they saw the suspect pull into the driveway, WPEC reported.

In the criminal complaint, deputies said they witnessed Kobersky try to throw a “white rock like substance” away from the vehicle while agents worked to put handcuffs on him. Kobersky allegedly shoved and pushed the deputy, actively resisting arrest, hitting at least two of them with aggressive elbow strikes and kicks.

According to the criminal paperwork, deputies ordered Kobersky to stop resisting arrest multiple times. Kobersky allegedly ripped off one deputy’s radio, and used the uncuffed portion of handcuffs to strike and cut another. “Kobersky dragged the three of us around to the passenger side of the vehicle while we were attempting to place him in handcuffs, he was pushing us away from him. During this time, due to the loose gravel pavement we all fell to the ground again.” The three deputies are all described as suffering lacerations.

Kobersky faces a list of charges, including drug possession, fleeing and eluding, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
