Georgia man accused of beating victim with baseball bat

A Georgia man is accused of beating a victim with a baseball bat last year, authorities said.

Matthew Kevin Cantrell, 29, of Temple, was arrested Tuesday and charged with aggravated assault, according to Haralson County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

Cantrell was arrested in Hiram on charges stemming from an incident in Buchanan, Georgia, on April 29, 2022, WSB-TV reported.

Deputies arriving at a residence spoke with the victim, who said he was on his bed when an unknown assailant entered the room and struck him “multiple” times with a baseball bat, according to the television station.

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries, WSB reported. Investigators said that video footage and other evidence led deputies to identify Cantrell as the suspect, according to the television station.

Cantrell was booked into the Haralson County Jail, online records show. Bail was denied.

“We would like to thank (the) Paulding County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance today,” the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.
