Gerber Products worker dies in accident at Michigan plant

FREMONT, Mich. — A worker died Thursday in an accident at the Gerber Products plant in Fremont, Michigan, parent company Nestle confirmed.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss and our sympathies are with the employee’s family, friends and colleagues,” Nestle said in a statement.

According to the company, the employee was working on repairs to a production a line at about 2 p.m. when the accident occurred, WOOD-TV reported.

Additional details regarding the accident have not been released, and the employee has not been identified publicly.

Nestle confirmed it is cooperating with authorities and has launched its own investigation, the TV station reported.

In addition to the Fremont Police Department, the Newaygo County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration are assisting with the investigation, the department stated in a news release.

Fremont is located about 45 miles north of Grand Rapids, and the Gerber Products facility, which employs about 500 people, opened in 1920.
