Florida man leads law enforcement on jet ski chase

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A chase in south Florida Monday night looked like something out of “Miami Vice” or an action movie.

A man led police, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers and U.S. Marshals on a chase Monday night. But this wasn’t an ordinary chase. It was on the water and on a personal watercraft, WTVJ reported.

The man, who was identified as Eric Tukes, had been wanted by the marshals, WTVJ reported.

The chase started with a manatee zone infraction, FWC told WTVJ. He had run from a marine patrol unit of the FWC. The chase spanned Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Eventually, authorities caught up to him behind the Hallandale Beach mayor’s home after he jumped from the personal watercraft and ran away, WTVJ reported.

Police found him walking near the mayor’s home when he was apprehended.

Tukes has been charged with federal probation violation, resisting arrest, fleeing and eluding, WTVJ reported.
