FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man was sentenced on Friday to life in prison plus 375 years for shooting a Georgia police officer to death in 2015.
According to WSB-TV, Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jane Barwick sentenced Amanuel Menghesha for the death of Detective Terrence Green on Friday. Green was a 22-year veteran of the Fulton County Police Department. Green was killed in the line of duty on March 15, 2015.
Barwick sentenced Menghesha to life in prison plus 375 years. According to WSB-TV, Menghesha accepted a negotiated plea deal in order to avoid the death penalty.
Green, along with three other officers responded to a call about possible shots being fired in the Parks of Cedar Grove area, according to WSB-TV. The suspect later identified as Menghesha, was not there. Police learned that he took his weapons and moved around the neighborhood where he had ambushed officers and opened fire with an assault-style weapon.
According to WSB-TV, officers ran for cover but Green was shot in the back of his head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
