JACKSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Investigators in Tennessee apparently did not believe a woman’s comments carried much weight.
According to the 15th Judicial Drug Task Force, Peggy Brewington said there was “maybe an ounce” of marijuana on her farm, WZTV reported. Instead, officers found dozens of marijuana plants and 20 pounds of the drug, the television station reported.
The seizure by the task force ended a monthlong investigation, the agency said in a news release.
Brewington was arrested on a trespassing charge on Aug. 27, according to WZTV. Three days later, the drug task force and members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search at Brewington’s residence and farm.
“Officers (asked) Ms. Brewington how much marijuana was in the residence,” the task force said in a news release. “She responded, “Maybe about an ounce.’
“Officers recovered over 20 pounds of marijuana from the residence and approximately 40 marijuana plants from the property,” the news release stated. “A second search was conducted at a nearby residence and more growing marijuana and processed marijuana was recovered.”
Brewington’s case will be forwarded to a grand jury in Jackson County, the task force said in its release.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and theTennessee Highway Patrol also assisted in the investigation, WZTV reported.
