Murder suspect found hiding in washing machine

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A murder suspect related to a case in Pennsylvania last month was found in New Jersey hiding inside a washing machine, officials say.

In a news release, Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and West Norriton Police Chief Michael Kelly announced that Cody Reed, 23, and Marquise Johnson, 23, were arrested in connection with the murder of Daquan Tucker.

Tucker’s body was found near the Schuylkill River Trail in Pennsylvania with multiple gunshot wounds on March 3, according to WHTM.

The district attorney’s office said a bicyclist found Tucker’s body around 9 a.m.

On Thursday, the U.S. Marshals along with the Atlantic City Police and the Atlantic City Police SWAT team found Reed and Johnson at an Airbnb in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Reed was found inside the apartment just after 5 p.m., according to WHTM.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said Johnson reportedly returned to the Airbnb a few hours after Reed’s arrest at around 7:30 p.m. and barricaded himself inside. A standoff ended just after 11 p.m. as SWAT units made their way inside the apartment. Johnson was arrested after he was found hiding in a washing machine, police said.

Reed and Johnson have been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, third-degree murder, robbery, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, a person not to possess a firearm, and other related charges, the district attorney’s office said.

Reed and Johnson are expected to be extradited back to Montgomery County, according to WHTM.

No information has been released about what led to the deadly shooting.
