But what bit the man is up for debate.

Some speculate the bite was from a shark. Officials have not confirmed what caused it, according to WCTI.

Emergency responders were called around 6 p.m. about a man being bitten in the water. The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown, WCTI reported.

North Carolina wildlife officials said bull sharks are present in the river. They can swim in fresh and brackish water. They grow up to 10.5 feet and can be aggressive toward humans, according to North Carolina Sea Grant.
