CBS News says self-published writer, Nancy Crampton Brophy, who wrote an essay called “How to Murder Your Husband,” was found guilty of second-degree murder Wednesday. Crampton Brophy has been in custody since she was arrested in September 2018 following the murder of her husband, Daniel Brophy.

KGW says the trial began on April 5 and Crampton Brophy pleaded not guilty. The trial was expected to go for six weeks but paused halfway through after someone in the courtroom tested positive for COVID-19.

KOIN says Brophy was a chef at the Oregon Culinary Institute, and he was found dead with gunshot injuries on June 2, 2018, inside a kitchen at the institute. Crampton Brophys arrest was made three months after his death. They said detectives collected an assembled handgun and a ghost gun build kit, a similar weapon to one they believed to have killed Brophy. Surveillance video outside of the institute also showed her gray minivan around the time he was murdered. Crampton Brophy claimed she had a “memory hole” and had a hard time piecing together what took place that day, according to KOIN.

Prosecutors argued that Crampton Brophys motive was Brophy’s significant life insurance policy, following claims backed up by witnesses that the couple was having financial issues.

KOIN says Crampton Brophy is scheduled to be sentenced on June 13.
