Recall alert: 1.2M Ram trucks recalled due to tailgate hazard

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced the recall of more than 1.2 million pickup trucks.

The reason — the truck’s tailgates can open unexpectedly, resulting in a crash.

The NHTSA said that the tailgate strikers may be misaligned and will not allow the tailgate to latch properly.

The recall affects some 2019-2022 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 models. The recall involves 1,234,657 trucks in total.

Owners will be alerted by mail starting in late January. Owners can call Chrysler’s customer service hotline at 1-800-853-1403.

The strikers will be examined and adjusted as needed, free of charge, the NHTSA said.
