Tennessee mom sentenced to 8 years in baby’s malnutrition death

PERRY COUNTY, Tenn. — A Tennessee mother was sentenced to an eight-year prison term after her 10-month-old daughter died of malnutrition, prosecutors said.

WZTV reported Wednesday that Laura Mosher, of Linden, agreed to plead guilty to reckless homicide and aggravated child neglect charges in connection with the 2017 death of her baby girl, Megan. Mosher initially faced a first-degree murder charge in the case, according to the news outlet.

Marc Mosher Jr., the child’s father, also faces an aggravated child abuse charge in the case and is awaiting trial, WZTV reported.

According to a previous WZTV report, Perry County sheriff’s deputies discovered the infant dead after responding to a Short Creek Road home on Jan. 12, 2017. An autopsy said the baby, who also was dehydrated, weighed only 10 pounds, the Tennessee River Valley News reported.
