ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A former Orange County elementary school teacher will go on trial on Monday in connection with the death of her husband nearly 23 years ago.
Delores Laster, a former first-grade teacher, was arrested in 2009 after her children came forward and told police that she shot her husband in 1988 at their home on Elon Drive.
Prosecutors said Laster made her children help cover up the crime. They said after shooting her husband, she made her 10-year-old and 12-year-old help her move Clarence Laster's body to make it all look like an intruder shot him.
Delores Laster told investigators that she and her two children came home one day to find Clarence Laster dead in the garage. Two of her children came forward to police 21 years later and said that they actually helped move the body from the bedroom to the garage after the slaying.
Shortly after Laster was arrested, one of the Clarence Laster's sons spoke with WFTV.
"It hurts me right now to even think about that right now, you know?" said Juan Laster.
Laster, a former Dillard Street Elementary School teacher, was with Orange County Public Schools for almost 40 years.
She was released from jail shortly after her arrest and has been monitored with a GPS tracking device while she awaited trial.
