APOPKA, Fla. — Wekiva High School was on lockdown for most of the day Friday due to three fights that broke out in the morning, Orange County school officials told WFTV. The fights happened around 10:00am at the school on North Hiawassee Road in Apopka (see map) .
WFTV learned that the incident started with a verbal altercation that led to three separate fights in the cafeteria during first lunch period. Officials said a total of eight to ten students were involved in the fights.
The school was initially put on "code red" lockdown, which means no movement. The code red lockdown stayed in place for about 10 minutes until the fights were under control.
The school then was placed on "code yellow" lockdown, meaning modified movement was allowed; students could not walk around and wander as they pleased.
Wekiva High School students were released from classes at regular time, 2:10pm, without incident.
There were no major injuries during the fights, only minor bumps and bruises. School officials said all of the students involved will be disciplined, most likely with suspension.
