GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A Gainesville radio station will have a new co-host Thursday, but it's how she lost her previous job that has people talking. University of Florida alum Renee Gork said she was fired from her reporting job in Arkansas because of a hat.
Gork said she wore a Gators football hat to a press conference for the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the head coach told her he wouldn't answer her questions if she had the hat on. She was fired two days later.
Now, Gork is back in Gainesville and says she is proud to wear her hat.
"Everything you do, you need to stand behind, and know what you are doing, make a conscious effort, and, yeah, everybody makes mistakes, but in this day and age you're going to pay for the mistakes you make," Gork said.
Gork now works for WRUF sports radio and she is also a mentor for UF students interested in broadcasting. She says she was wearing the hat that day because of a bad hair day.
