Orlando City captain Ricardo Kaká was called up Friday to the Brazilian National Team for the Copa America Centenario.
This is Kaká’s first-career Copa America call up, and he will join the national team in Los Angeles immediately in compliance with FIFA regulations, officials said.
Kaká replaces midfielder Douglas Costa, who plays at the club level for Bayern Munich, on Brazil’s 23-man roster after a strong start to his 2016 MLS campaign, with two goals and five assists in seven games.
Kaká has tallied 117 caps for the national team and was part of three World Cup rosters, including the 2002 championship team.
Orlando City will face New York City FC Sunday, but will have to replace Kaká in the starting lineup. The Lions will then go on a three-week Copa America break before returning June 18.
Brazil is preparing for its last friendly match Sunday against Panama before competing for its ninth title in the tournament.
After facing Ecuador on June 4 in the Rose Bowl in California, Kaká and Brazil will travel to Orlando for a match against Haiti at Camping World Stadium on June 8. Brazil will finish the group stage against Peru in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

Good for Kaka, not so much for a depleted Lions club. https://t.co/sauquP9kYA
