Warm records set in Leesburg, Sanford; more heat coming, still rain-free

ORLANDO, Fla. — Very warm temperatures are expected throughout Central Florida for the week.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • New high records were set on Monday at Leesburg and Sanford.
    • Leesburg hit 90 degrees, smashing the 2012 record of 86 degrees.
    • Sanford hit 89, surpassing the 1982 record of 87 degrees.
  • Evening temps will drop to the mid-60s.
  • With the west wind, the temperatures on Tuesday afternoon could reach 90 degrees in several spots.
  • Expect temperatures into the mid-90s by the late week, and we’ll be watching for more broken records for heat as we go through the week.

Rainfall is becoming an issue -- we need rain, but there’s very little chance of any through the next seven days and beyond.

Otherwise, the weather’s looking fairly quiet, not too windy with subtle changes in direction a predominantly light south breeze through the week.
