PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Residents across Florida were waking up Sunday to another day of cleanup after Hurricane Matthew, and one mobile home park in Port Orange was still grappling with the extent of the destruction.
Despite a mandatory evacuation, resident Maureen Medford decided to weather the storm from her home and saw firsthand the damage the storm caused.
“You heard everything peeling and, you know, debris flying everywhere,” she said. “We were looking out the window and we saw stuff flying everywhere.”
Medford’s carport and roof were destroyed in the storm, and because she doesn’t have insurance, she will likely have to foot the repair bill herself.
The damage Hurricane Matthew caused in the mobile home park was so extensive, there were no homes left unaffected, resident Jeanette Hayner said.
“The whole park, about every home is almost destroyed, and that was heartbreaking,” she said.
