DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.,None — A 3-year-old was rushed to Orlando's Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital after falling out of a window in Daytona Beach. The girl fell three stories out of a window at the Cape Morris Cove Apartments just after 7:00pm Monday.
Witnesses told WFTV the child's mother, Cecily Miller, opened her apartment window earlier in the evening. The little girl apparently pushed on the screen and fell 21 feet onto the dirt below. When the mother saw, she went rushing down to her child.
"She was crying, she was trying to get up. The mother kept telling her to lay still," said Marlene Allen, one of Miller's neighbors.
The little girl was taken to Halifax Medical Center and was then flown to Arnold Palmer.
Daytona Beach police are treating the incident as an accident.
Witnesses on scene told WFTV it took nearly 20 minutes for an ambulance to be called. Police said that's because the call initially came out as a suspicious woman, so it wasn't until police arrived at the scene and realized what happened that an ambulance was called.
