9 Investigates: Altamonte Springs officer visited mistress dozens of times while on duty

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — 9 Investigates uncovered a married Altamonte Springs police officer was caught visiting his girlfriend while on duty about 50 times over the course of 92 work days.

The affair itself lasted much longer, but GPS records only went back so far.

A more than 100-page internal investigation report also details criminal allegations against the officer that were later dropped.

Altamonte Springs police pulled the GPS records from officer Kerwyn Jones' patrol vehicle, and found he spent more than nine hours over the course of those 92 work days with his mistress, and while the woman admitted to a consensual relationship, she also made claims that led to a criminal investigation.

The report details the 2-year affair between Jones and the woman, whom he met while on duty.

The first page states that days after Jones met the woman in 2015, he “showed up unexpectedly at her residence, while on duty and in uniform.”

The affair led to a criminal investigation because the woman wrote a sworn statement claiming Jones forced her into a sex act.

She later declined to press charges and the State Attorney's Office couldn't establish probable cause, so Jones is still allowed to wear a badge.

He told internal affairs the woman was trying to blackmail him, saying he could “sum up this whole situation in two words: sour grapes.”

He was suspended for 36 hours without pay and will spend the next year on probation, after admitting he, “embarrassed the badge, embarrassed himself and embarrassed the police department.”

Jones’ discipline was handed down to him Wednesday.

An agency spokesperson declined an interview, saying the internal investigation speaks for itself.
