Company with possibly faulty partitions awarded contract with FHP

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol said it just accepted Setina Manufacturing’s bid to install partitions for all FHP vehicles.

But following several reports by Eyewitness News involving possible flaws with the cages, troopers want more questions answered by the manufacturer and deputies.

Eyewitness News found out officials at FHP headquarters in Tallahassee want to know what happened in an Orange County deputy’s vehicle when an accused murder suspect, Jose Torres, pulled one gun through a partition and possibly a second gun.%

Currently, troopers use Dee Zee partitions.

In an email from Trooper Lt. Herbert Brown, he said, “Setina was awarded the bid and we will be entering into a contract with them, but I do not want to put our officers at risk."

Setina Manufacturing still is not responding to questions from Channel 9 about possibly faulty partitions.
