ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A new towing policy is causing controversy at an Orange County apartment complex.
People who live at the Royal Springs Apartments at Holden Avenue and Rio Grande Avenue woke up Sunday morning to find their cars towed.
The complex just implemented a policy banning people from backing their cars into parking spaces. But residents say they were never told.
Some residents were so upset they called Orange County Sheriff Deputies.
"The police asked me if I'm behind on my payments. I said no I'm not behind on my payments," resident Edna Tolbert said.
The apartment complex manager would not talk to WFTV about the new policy.
Tenants were forced to pay $125 to get their cars back. Others will wait until they have the cash.
The towing company told WFTV that the complex started the new rule to get rid of a drug problem at the complex. The complex hopes being able to see license plates at all times will help with the problem.
