BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested a 39-year-old Merritt Island man in connection with the hit-and-run death of two pedestrians in Brevard County.

According to troopers, the driver of the 2003 Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on State Road 528 near the Banana River Drive exit early Monday when the incident occurred.

Both pedestrians were walking or standing on the shoulder of the road when the front of the vehicle hit both victims, troopers said.

According to troopers, both pedestrians were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene and called 911 at his residence, stating that he did not have cell service at the scene, troopers said.

Troopers arrested the driver for leaving the scene and DUI. The crash remains under investigation.
