DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.,None — A former Daytona Beach hotel manager who pleaded guilty to paying a teen boy to perform sex acts was sentenced on Friday in federal court to 15 years.
It was the minimum amount of time 57-year-old Dennis Devlin could receive. The maximum would have been 40 years.
Devlin admitted that he payed the 13-year-old to perform acts on camera at the Desert Inn. Devlin told the judge what he did was wrong and that he deserved to pay for it.
Devlin also has to pay $6,000 in restitution.
The victim's grandmother told WFTV that she was satisfied with the sentence.
"I don't think he'll get out. I think he's old enough to be in there the rest of his life," said the victim's grandmother, who did not want to be named.
WFTV spoke with the federal prosecutor and she said Devlin should stay in prison for at least 85 percent of that 15-year sentence even if he behaves, which would amount to 12 years and nine months behind bars.
In February, FBI agents raided Devlin's hotel, the Desert Inn, which his mother now owns. They said they found an iPod hidden in Devlin's ceiling with sexual images of the victim. The FBI also found pictures of other teen boys near Devlin's sofa.
Federal documents showed Devlin lured his 13-year-old victim to his private hotel suite with the help of an accomplice. He had apparently been doing that for months, according to agents.
If he does get out of prison, he would have lifetime supervision and he'd have to take a polygraph test. He wouldnt be allowed to be on a computer or to be around children.
The victim's attorney told WFTV that his sentence was not uncommon, especially since Devlin pleaded guilty to the crime and apologized for what he did.
The victim's family has also filed a lawsuit in civil court against Devlin, his corporation, and the Desert Inn.
Devlin's alleged accomplice in the crime, Michael Ehmen, will be sentenced next Friday.
