'I made a mistake’: Orange County man arrested after trying to smuggle cocaine in shoes into US

ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orange County man was arrested after authorities said he tried to smuggle cocaine into the U.S. at Orlando International Airport.

Authorities said Bahanni Haywood was traveling on a flight from Montego Bay, Jamaica, when he caught the attention of Customs and Border Patrol officers.

Investigators said they found nearly 1.2 kilograms of cocaine inside seven pairs of Haywood’s shoes.

Records show when Haywood was questioned by investigators, he told them, “I (expletive) up!”

When asked if he was a criminal or just made a mistake, Haywood told authorities, “I made a mistake!”

Haywood was previously arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed firearm and grand theft auto last year, but charges were dropped in both cases.
