POLK COUNTY, Fla. — WFTV obtained new information about a woman accused of murdering a Polk County lottery winner. Authorities released 4,300 pages in the case of Abraham Shakespeare Thursday.
The documents reveal that Dorice "Dee Dee" Moore begged her father to take the fall because he was old, sick, and had nothing left to lose.
That's just one astonishing detail that WFTV dug up in thousands of pages of investigation.
Another item released Thursday was a receipt from a Walmart, not far from the home where the body was found. It shows Moore bought items like plastic sheets and gloves and detectives believe the timing of the shopping trip was suspicious.
In January, detectives found Abraham Shakespeare's body, shot twice in the chest, under a concrete slab behind a house owned by Moore's boyfriend.
Detectives said the items were bought the day before Moore had arranged to have the body moved to a new location.
According to the documents, she knew detectives were on to her and she was desperately trying to stay ahead of them.
But investigators said she could not outrun a paper trail thousands of pages long.
According to police reports, Moore befriended Shakespeare after he won the $30 million lotto jackpot. They said she became his financial advisor only to write countless checks from his account, spend his money, then murdered him when he began to question her.
The documents show her parents were suspicious as well. She asked them to store jewelry and guns, and at one point asked her father to take the rap for her when he had simply hoped he could somehow help.
Her mother recalled Moore saying "Would you really dad?" And then asked him how old he was and what his sicknesses were.
Moore's parents cooperated fully with police. Her father told them, "I love my daughter and I'd hate to see anything happen to her, but it's gone too far."
The 4,300 pages of interviews, financial documents and police reports are a glimpse into what prosecutors will be armed with when Moore goes to trial for murder.
