Lake County Schools provides free COVID-19 testing for teachers

LEESBURG, Fla — Lake County Schools provides free COVID-19 testing for teachers Monday.

The district reported that six teachers tested positive for COVID-19 of the 3,000 teachers tested.

The teachers can take another test as early as Tuesday. If they test positive again, they will have to follow CDC guidelines for quarantining, per the district spokesperson.

Lake County teachers waited hours in long lines Monday to have a free rapid COVID-19 test provided by the school district.

Testing sites were set up around the county at area high schools, and teachers had the option for a drive-thru test before the start of the school year.

The teachers we spoke with were excited to have the coronavirus testing available but also nervous to get back to school.

One teacher we spoke with says she is excited to see her students again and get back to face-to-face learning.

She is concerned because she does not want to bring the coronavirus home to her 68-year-old husband.

Lake County Schools teamed up with a private medical company, Adult Medicine of Lake County, and Lake County health and government personnel to provide the rapid COVID-19 tests.

Lake County teachers returned to school Monday, and classes start Aug. 24.
