Leesburg Bike Fest Sees Attendance Increase

LEESBURG, Fla. — Sunday's stormy forecast didn't keep people from heading out to Leesburg for the annual Bike Fest.

Lots of people have been have been enjoying the annual event, and they may even break attendance records this year.

"That's all the scuttlebutt around town, this being the best year for this event", said Chuck Lindsay, a vendor at the Bike Fest.

It's a yearly celebration that folks in Leesburg have been waiting for. Hundreds of thousands of bikers flocked to the city this weekend to celebrate their passion for motorcycles.

"It's a nice event, you know what I mean, come out here and get some sun, feel free on the motorcycle, I'm loving it", said Tony White, a biker.

Main Street was a parade of leather jackets and tattoos, but bikers here say it's a more subdued crowed than Bike Week in Daytona.

"People are a lot more laid back, they don't hassle you. It's a more enjoyable festival", explained Danny Curtis, a biker.

The crowds pump life into the economy. Last year the event brought in $15 million for local businesses.

"A great boost to our economy, this will help get us through the rest of the year regardless", said business owner, Joyce Huey.

In it's 14th year, the Leesburg Bike Fest has gone from a small town event to one that has now established a national following.

Huey sees people from "all over the country, we've had them from everywhere."
