Judge sets bond for 1 of 5 Winter Springs rape suspects

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — A judge set bond Friday for one of the five Winter Springs High School students accused of raping a teenager.

The victim’s mother is speaking out because she says her daughter continues to be victimized.

The mother, who Channel 9 has chosen not to identify, said her daughter not only has to endure the aftermath of a rape, but she’s being harassed online.

She said the violent, nasty taunts and threats have made her fear for her family’s safety.

“For instance, there was a message we got where they said she should kill herself and she’s going straight to hell,” the mother said.

Winter Springs police are investigating the online messages, some of which the mother said aren’t just coming from teenagers, but from adults as well.

“The day I logged into her Facebook page and saw adults threatening her I was like, ‘No wonder the kids are like this. Because it’s being made OK,’” she said.

The family said they are still haunted by that day two months ago when the victim was allegedly raped, but their main priority is trying to heal.

“I’m just glad she survives. She could have gotten killed out there. I could have buried my child,” the mother said.

Investigators are looking into the possibility someone may have hacked into the girl’s social media accounts.

Because of the sensitive information regarding the rape case, detectives are not going into much detail in the social media case.

Josea Sims, 16, faced a judge Tuesday with his attorney and mother by his side. Tywuan Johnson, 16, and Tolbert Alexander, 14, waived their right to appear in court. All three of them have entered not guilty pleas.

Deonte Stewart, 17, and Marquis Pierre, 17, are being charged as adults.

Stewart;s bond was set at $35,000. If he bonds out of jail, he will not be allowed to contact the victim or talk about anything regarding the case on social media.
