VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said a man has died after his canoe capsized on the St. Johns River north of Butler Street in Volusia County.
At 2:37 p.m. Sunday, FWC received a call from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office regarding boaters in distress, officials said.
FWC said a man and a woman on a small, 15-foot boat left an unknown residence near the river and at some point their boat capsized.
The woman on the boat was brought to shore by a good Samaritan and the man went underwater and did not resurface, according to FWC. He was later identified as 58-year-old Francisco Sergio.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the search.
RIGHT NOW: Lake County paramedics just left and the dive recovery unit just came in. It’s headed towards Hickory Road along the St. John’s River where crews are looking for a missing boater after an accident.
