KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Two people died in a crash on the Turnpike that was likely caused by a tire blowout, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Three other people were injured in the one-vehicle crash near mile marker 220 on Thursday.
Sgt. Kim Montes said the tire issue caused the northbound car to go off the road and into the median, where it flipped onto its roof.
Montes said the 45-year-old driver, William Castillo, and 15-year-old Hector Castillo, died at the scene. Hector Castillo was not wearing a seat belt.
Those injured include 80-year-old Irma Pineda, 11-year-old William Castillo Jr. and 13-year-old Ian Canales. Everyone in the vehicle was from West Palm Beach.
The crash remains under investigation.
