Allegiant Air passengers head to destinations after foggy delays

SANFORD, Fla. — Allegiant Air flights are running in and out of Sanford-Orlando International Airport after several flights were canceled due to Tuesday night's fog.

Six flights scheduled to leave Sanford on Wednesday were canceled without a rescheduled flight.

Those passengers received refunds, and they had to come up with their own travel accommodations to get to their final destination.

Six other flights that were scheduled to go in and out of Sanford on Wednesday were rescheduled for Thursday.

Those passengers were given $100 vouchers and hotel accommodations, but because so many hotels were booked, some slept at the airport.

The ripple effect from the fog pushed some airplanes away from Sanford Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, meaning crews and aircraft for flights that were scheduled late Wednesday weren't in place.

“First the flight was delayed then it was canceled. Horrible experience. I want to get home to see my mother. That was my big goal,” said traveler Benito Delgado.

Passengers who were diverted from Sanford on Tuesday were accommodated and made it to Central Florida.

Allegiant representative Hilarie Grey said in a statement: “We sincerely apologize to our customers for the disruption to their plans, but the weather situation was unexpected and its impact on our operations in the area severe.”
