APOPKA, Fla. — The state fire marshal is investigating a fire that destroyed an abandoned home in Apopka Thursday.

Apopka fire officials said the fire happened at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday on east Sandpiper Street.

The structure was in a group of about six abandoned homes.

Two weeks ago, the Apopka City Council voted to redevelop the land and knock down the homes.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
