LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — Newly released body camera video shows the arrest of a Leesburg doctor, accused of shooting cellphone video under the skirts of unsuspecting shoppers at a Groveland Publix.
A few days after the incident, Akram Ismail agreed to stop practicing medicine.
He is currently out on bond.
In the video, the doctor first told officers, “If it happened, it was an accident.”
A store manager joined several witnesses who told police the Leesburg doctor was recording video up the skirts of female shoppers.
“You don’t remember photographing anybody?” the police officer asked Ismail.
“Why would I do that?” Ismail said.
“Well, I’m asking you. That’s why we’re here,” said the officer.
The officer asked Ismail if he had been arrested before.
Ismail did not disclose his 2010 arrest when he was given probation on lesser charged in a murder for hire plot.
He did reveal a 2005 federal arrest for assaulting an air marshal on an airline.
He served six months in prison.
According to the police report of the Publix incident, officers found incriminating video on Ismail’s cellphone.
That’s when Ismail told police he “had a problem” and planned to see a specialist.
“If the camera was there, cameras don’t lie,” Ismail said when officers found the video.
“Cameras don’t lie. You are 100 percent correct,” the officer said.
Police obtained a search warrant for Ismail’s phone and said the investigating is ongoing.
Ismail is due in court on Aug. 10.
