"He has been in our area for some time. We've had some contacts with him over the past few weeks," Andrew Gant of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.
According to investigators, workers unloading the recycling materials discovered the body.
"We're not sure exactly where the garbage truck picked up the load that contained his body, but we're working to figure that out,"said Gant.
The death is being described as "suspicious" by sheriff's officials.
"No indication of foul play or trauma to him. The cause of death, exact cause of death, will have to be determined by an autopsy," Gant said.
The Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy Thursday.
The Sheriff’s Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department are investigating the incident.
