Body of missing diver located off Key Largo

KEY LARGO, Fla. — Authorities in the Florida Keys believe they've found the body of a missing diver from Lake County.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office reports that a body was found Friday afternoon inside the wreck of the USS Spiegel Grove, located about 6 miles off Key Largo.

A medical examiner will have to officially identify the body, but detectives believe it is 43-year-old Joseph Dragojevich, a paramedic supervisor  who worked for Lake County Emergency Medical Services.

Jerry Smith, of Lake County EMS, worked with Dragojevich for more than 15 years.

"(He) worked very hard to make sure things were good for his crews, good for the citizens and the patients we treated," Smith said.

Dragojevich disappeared Thursday afternoon while diving with a friend around the sunken vessel.

Friends told Channel 9's Julie Salomone that Dragojevich loved to dive, loved his job and the quietness of the ocean.

"(He) would he often talk about his trips when he got back," said Smith. "(He) constantly made me jealous, made me jealous. He's a good guy."

Authorities said they have also recovered Dragojevich's equipment and hope to determine what happened to him.
