Boil water alert for parts of Seminole County extended until Wednesday

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Seminole County officials announced that a boil water alert for its southeast service area has been extended until April 14.

The systemwide alert covers all customers in the southeast service area, east of State Route 436.

That includes Seminole County utilities customers as well as municipal utility customers who receive their water from Seminole County.

The county first notified residents of the boil water alert just after 6 a.m on April 10, after an interruption of power to the water treatment plant that services that area.

Residents have been advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes.

Many residents said they were unaware of the notice for several hours, despite officials’ efforts to notify customers via social media and reverse 911 calls.

Seminole County spokesperson Andrea Wontor said regulations state that water samples must be free of bacteria for two consecutive days before any boil water advisory can be lifted.
