BREVARD COUNTY, Fla.,None — Hundreds of Brevard County students will have to go to new schools next year.
The school board voted Tuesday night on new attendance boundaries for all north Brevard County schools.
It also decided to shut down Riverview Elementary School.
Board members said the goal was to reduce enrollment at several overcrowded schools and save $1 million.
Parents WFTV spoke with say they're disappointed by the decision.
“We're upset that Riverview is going to be closed and that kids are going to be moved, but keeping a school open with 297 students and you know it makes a lot of sense closing it, but you don't want to see another thing close in Titusville,” said parent Liz Brookshier.
There was one bright spot. Original plans had the district redistricting more than 1,000 students. Instead, less than 500 will be impacted.
