Now, Jenkins is on that short list of school board members the governor hopes to help oust for failing to protect parents’ rights.

“There’s no such thing as a nonpartisan school board race anymore,” Jenkins said. “Unfortunately, I’ve been thrusted into the world of politics. There’s no resident in Brevard County that is unaware that I’m a registered Democrat. It’s no surprise to them. I’m not concerned.”

Jenkins is just one of more than a dozen Florida school board members facing opposition in 2024.

Moms for Liberty co-founder Tiffany Justice said the list of candidates and races facing opposition could grow. her group was part of a larger strategy session with DeSantis earlier this week.

“Politics matter because policies matter, because people matter, and our moms saw really bad policies that were enacted in Florida during the time of COVID,” Justice said. “And now, they’re getting involved in politics because they want to have influence.”

“I think there will be additional candidates, additional races that will be targeted and our children’s future is no joke,” Justice added.

Jenkins said she is “confident that I represent the majority of views of people who send their children to public education, because I’m not here representing Democratic voters. I’m here representing every single person who sends their child to public school.”
