Brevard County deputy behind controversial Facebook posts on organization page suspended with pay

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Brevard County deputy who apologized Monday for controversial Facebook posts on a police organization’s page over the weekend was suspended without pay Tuesday.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey called the posts by Lt. Robert Gamin on the Brevard County Fraternal Order Of Police page, which appeared to invite troubled officers in Minneapolis; Buffalo, New York; and Atlanta to apply for jobs in Florida state, “uncalled for” and “unacceptable.”

“Lt. Gamin has been with our agency for 27 years. He has life-saving awards and a number of other commendations, but that does not excuse what he did in that scenario,” Ivey said during a news conference Tuesday.

On Monday, Gamin offered an apology, saying his social media post was in poor taste and did not reflect the sentiment that he was trying to convey.

An internal affairs investigation will determine if he violated sheriff’s office policy.
