Central Florida family honors a loved one, plans to launch his remains into space

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — SpaceX is set to send another Falcon 9 rocket into space on Wednesday.

The launch of the Transporter 5 mission will take place at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station SLC-40.

The launch window is from 2:25 p.m. to 3:24 p.m.

The mission will launch numerous small microsatellites and nanosatellites for commercial and government customers headed for a sun-synchronous orbit.

Space Memorial, the pioneer and global leader in memorial spaceflight services, announced that the Ascension Flight will also be part of Wednesday’s launch.

The Ascension Flight will honor Derek Stephen Yanes from Tampa.

The 46-year-old grew up watching rocket launches from Cape Canaveral and always wanted to be an astronaut. However, due to an unfortunate health issue he was unable to.

Now his family will be able to grant him his lifelong wish and launch his remains into space.

Falcon 9 is the world’s first reusable, two-stage rocket designed to transport people and payloads into Earth orbit and beyond.
