Here’s where Brightline will add a second track in Brevard

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Brightline construction team will continue to make headway on its Orlando extension.

A second railroad track will be added to the corridor, which is known as a signal-and-track cutover.

Trains will operate with speeds of up to 79 mph for testing.

Both drivers and pedestrians should be aware that after the second track is commissioned, trains could operate at this high speed and run on either of the tracks at any time.

The new system will begin construction at 6 a.m. Sunday and run through 6 p.m. Friday, July 29.

This addition will affect the following railroad crossings:

Rockledge

  1. Barnes Boulevard (SR 502)
  2. Carver Street
  3. Ansin Road
  4. Viera Boulevard

Melbourne

  1. Suntree Boulevard
  2. Post Road

Drivers should expect to see flaggers present at the crossings during this period and anticipate longer wait times as a result.

Brightline encourages pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to stay alert and obey all traffic laws around crossings, especially with the new changes.
