TITUSVILLE, Fla. — The wreckage of a single-engine plane that crashed in Titusville Monday morning has been recovered and will soon be reviewed by NTSB investigators.
The Mooney M20F plane went down around 10:16 a.m. after an engine failed shortly after takeoff, investigators said. The pilot tried to return to the runway but crashed into power lines near State Road 405.
The pilot died at the scene.
“There was only one soul on board at the time of the plane crash,” said Titusville Fire Chief John Hustolis.
Investigators have not identified the pilot, although they have an idea as to the identity. Injuries sustained to the body made it difficult for investigators to make a definitive identification.
“Out of abundance of caution with how much attention this has gotten with social media we did reach out to family members of who we believe this is to give them a heads up,” said Interim Titusville Police Chief T.J Wright.
In a statement, the NTSB said it will look at flight track data, air traffic control communications and aircraft maintenance records. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
