Elderly woman killed, driver arrested in Melbourne crash, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police are investigating a deadly crash that killed a passenger and injured a driver.

On Thursday, officers responded to a crash on Sarno Road and Croton Road.

Police said a Kia utility vehicle was traveling eastbound on Sarno Road when a Dodge pickup truck traveling westbound made a left turn onto Croton Road causing the crash.

The driver of the Dodge, 56-year-old James Patton, was arrested for driving impaired and transported to the Brevard County Jail Complex.

Both the driver and passenger of the Kia were transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.

According to a news release, on Friday, the passenger, of the Kia, a 91-year-old West Melbourne woman, died from her injuries.

This crash remains under investigation and is being investigated as a traffic homicide, police said.
